NHS Quality Improvement Scotland
We are pleased to announce that the Clinical Standards for Heart Disease have been finalised. The finalisation of these clinical standards follows extensive multi-professional, patient and public input. The next stage will require NHS boards to undertake an assessment of compliance of their service against the clinical standards. NHS boards will then be asked to submit evidence to us to demonstrate compliance with these clinical standards and to provide an associated improvement plan. NHS Quality Improvement Scotland will be adopting a risk-based and proportionate approach to assess, measure and report NHS board performance against these clinical standards.
ln addition, NHS Quality lmprovement Scotland has worked closely with patients and representatives from voluntary organisations linked to heart disease who have been involved in developing the clinical standards, to produce a Patient lnformation Leaflet for Heart Disease. Should you have any queries or require further information regarding these clinical standards, please contact the Programme Manager, Prince Obike, on 0141 225 6898 or at prince.obike@nhs.net. Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillators (ICDs) in Patients who are Reaching the End of Life
The aim is to raise awareness of the potential dilemmas that devices such as ICDs introduce in advanced disease management and to promote discussion about the possibility of deactivating the defibrillator function of the ICD in patients who are reaching the end of their life. You can download the booklet here.
