  • Graduated from Cambridge University (Churchill College with clinical training at United Medical and Dental Schools of Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals, London).
  • Wessex cardiology training rotation, with research and training in heart failure at the Royal Brompton Hospital and the National Heart and Lung Institute in London.
  • Consultant cardiologist lead for integrated heart failure service in Portsmouth, including implantation of ICDs and CRT.
  • Ongoing interest in medical education and research, with more than 70 peer-reviewed publications.
  • Chief Investigator for IRONMAN-UK study evaluating potential benefit of IV iron in chronic heart failure.
  • Co-organiser of annual national Cardio-Renal Conference (since 2006).
  • Previous role within BSH as Councillor 2009-11, during which time he was programme director for the Medical Training Meeting 2010 and 2011 and 2015 (co) and co-programme director for the Annual Autumn Meeting 2010 and 2013.
  • British Cardiovascular Society: member of the Knowledge Based Assessment Board & Standard Setting Group.
  • European Society of Cardiology: member of the MCQ question setting and review group.
  • Edited cardiology text book Specialist Training in Cardiology.
