The BSH QI Academy is dedicated to mentoring and supporting heart failure nurses or allied health professionals to become future leaders. We believe having access to quality improvement resources will support specialists in improving patient outcomes and create value for the wider health economy.

Learn about the QI Academy

  • The Academy is open to 10 heart failure BSH nurses and allied health professionals each year.

    We welcome applications from candidates whose projects are in line with the 25in25 strategy. Applications are encouraged from candidates across the cardiorenal metabolic pathway in both primary and secondary care.

  • Please apply by 5pm 5th January 2026 to nurseforum@bsh.org.uk and attach the following:

    • Confirmation of your line manager’s approval to attend training

    • Confirmation of your booking for the MDT in May 2026

    • A brief CV including your current role and areas of interest for a potential QI project.

    Successful candidates will be informed by 31st January 2026.

  • Please ensure you can commit to the following before submitting your application:

    • Attendance of the course dates for a minimum of 1 year

    • Carrying our your own QI project during the year

    • In person workshops at our MDT in XXXX in May and in September in London

    • Online workshops on X, X, X, X and X.

Aims of the QI Academy

  • To provide a grounding in quality improvement methodology.

  • To support participants to undertake a quality improvement initiative within their services.

  • To demonstrate the feasibility of quality improvement methodology for the evaluation of person-centred care and services by individuals or groups.

  • To demonstrate how quality improvement projects highlight the local application of international, national, and local policies and guidelines.

  • To support each participant to undertake a quality improvement project within one year of programme inception.
